MY MORNING PRAYER !

Why do you need to pray? The best answer comes from an authority none other than Stephen R. Covey, the famous author of '7 Habits of Highly Effective People'. He says that " there are parts to human nature that can not be reached by either legislation or education but require the power of God to deal with. I believe that as human beings, we can not perfect ourselves. To the degree to which we align ourselves with correct principles, divine endowments will be released within our nature in enabling us to fulfill the measure of our creation.

Covey further says that We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey.

When I wake up in the morning, I do the following prayers:

May I have the serenity to
accept the things I can not change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

                  - American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr

IDEAL DAY

To get an impact at the macro level, you must take steps at the micro level. The routine of the day decides the quality of life you live. If the day's routine is not in consonance with nature's cycle, progress on the spiritual path can't be achieved. This is the pragmatic wisdom and the sooner, you realize the better it would be.

Deepak Chopra, the famous American Indian doctor is my guru in more ways. He is not only the champion of health cause on American soil but would long be remembered as a man who has made the right blend of science and philosophy for human progression. He suggests the ideal day should have following components:

WE ARE THE CREATIVE EXPRESSION OF GOD

WE THE CREATIVE EXPRESSION OF GOD
A dictionary defines 'God' as under:

"the one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe."

I dived deep into the origin of the word. Another dictionary (Merriam-Webster online dictionary) throws some light that the word 'God' was first used before the 12th century. But Indian Ancient Texts, Vedas proclaimed about God, Universe much earlier and it is very difficult to trace the exact date.

Bing Bang theory says that the origin of this Universe is 13.8 billion years ago (source: Wikipedia). It took me roughly 3 years to deeply understand the scientific explanation on the origin of the universe. The notable book among them is Joel Primack's much-acclaimed work: The View from the Centre of the Universe.

FIERY POET CALLED SUBRAMANIA BHARATI

 FIERY POET CALLED SUBRAMANIA BHARATI
If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.
                                                                      -  Isaac Newton

I am truly humbled with the kind of literary stuff I come across in my life. I read great works of wisdom masters who include Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore whose masterly work "Gitanjali' transcended me from mundane thinking.

We have so many poets who stirred the mankind with their writings and amongst them is Subramania Bharati, the great Tamil Poet after Thiruvalluvar whose classic work Tirukkural should not be missed to read.

PHILOSOPHICAL CONNOTATIONS OF 'DEATH'

The other day, when I along with some colleagues went for tea-break in sun-bathed Delhi's winter morning at our office's cafeteria, I couldn't forecast that I had to return with a sad note.

When we were sipping tea in the warmth of Sun, suddenly a car ran over a puppy in front of our eyes. The puppy with its black and white shades was very cute. It was playing leisurely with its mother on the road when the incident happened. When the dogs were on jolly mood, we were keenly observing and discussing how cute the four puppies and we could not even have the slightest hint that death was looming on one of them.

TOO MUCH MATERIALISM IS INJURIOUS TO HEALTH !

TOO MUCH MATERIALISM IS INJURIOUS TO HEALTH
Generally we are driven by comparison. If our neighbour brings home a new thing, our heart craves to possess that thing. This thought is purely mechanical and wisdom should prevail all times. Suppose, if you don't have means to buy that thing, you just throw a tantrum on everyone who comes your way.

I don't straightway ask you to live the life of hermit and that may not be possible or advisable for majority of the folks. The substance is simple. Better to compare with people of less privileged. Whenever such thought crops up your mind, just shut that thought and think of the fate of people living in utter poverty in your neighbourhood.

Anupam Kher, the best character artist of Bollywood in his book " The Best Thing About You is You!" says that

A PARABLE ON 'HAPPINESS'

A PARABLE ON HAPPINESS

I have a spiritual bent of mind since my childhood. My upbringing is a huge factor. Being exposed to spiritual discourses in my formative years, I decided that I would spend my later life to read all scriptures and also do self-inquiry to know the purpose of life.

In fact, I put a separate notebook to jot down the great sayings of wisdom masters on happiness a couple of years back.

My mother used to say that I get boundless joy in giving ' rather than 'receiving'.

MY POEM "BLESSED I AM '

Who is the poet? The person who stands at a correct vantage point and see self, life, world, emotions and relationships and churn out stanzas which we call poetry.

This is a poem, I wrote for myself three years ago which was buried in my notebook!

BLESSED I AM

Enthralling evening sky!
Sun embodied as a crimson disc is on the western horizon.
Grass under my foot is radiant with greenery.

My heart is dangled with joy by Nature's mystical beauty!
Suddenly pangs of gratitude slide me into reflection.

I thanked Almighty for not choosing me as a 'Tree" to remain stationary!
Nor a crawling "Ant' destined to be under walkers’ feet !!
Not even as 'Stray Animal' hamstrung with
the daily ordeals of survival !!!

Blessed I am human in the tapestry of Creation !!!

SUFISM OFFERS DEEP WISDOM

SUFISM OFFERS DEEP WISDOM
When you check Wikipedia about Sufism, it reverts back with the following definition:

Sufism is a concept in Islam, defined by scholars as the inner, mystical dimension of Islam; others contend that it is a perennial philosophy of existence that pre-dates religion, the expression of which flowered within the Islamic religion.

Rumi is a great Sufi poet and his poems offer deep wisdom.

The following Sufi story (Source: Book " The Language of God: A Scientist presents Evidence for the Belief by Francis Collins) always puts me on modesty:

WISDOM SEEKER

 WISDOM SEEKER
We, the humans are special from all other life on Earth. In each of us, there is an inner hunger to excel in every activity we undertake. Perhaps the seeds for such urge are planted in the mother's womb itself.

Are we really tapping the full potential of our brains for which they are made?

Once this question hunts your mind, it will take you on the growth path. The desire to think the best, do the best naturally comes in gaped cycles for all of us. From Greek times to till
date, human thought has taken interesting twists and turns. Each man interpreted life according to his/her own experience and formulated theories/ ideologies that tangled with religion. This made a mess out of it. What lies beyond our petty lives and what is the scheme of this visible universe and how can we achieve eternal happiness, these are the questions one must ask internally. In fact these are the spiritual questions and to reach to this level one needs a lot of wisdom.
