HERACLITUS - A RARE BREED OF GREEK PHILOSOPHERS

Wisdom is not something that is found outside YOU. You have to come Home to find it within YOU only. The life of philosophers always gives deep insights to tread our own path. One such Greek philosopher whose profound wisdom inspires in this modern era is Heraclitus.

I came to know about Heraclitus only when I read the recent edition of Osho World, a monthly magazine which carried one essay on this great man. Osho says that Heraclitus was like Gautam Buddha or Lao Tzu, but the Greek soil was absolutely not kind for him.

Throwing more light on Heraclitus, Osho says that he is a really rare flowering, one of the most highly penetrating souls, one of those souls who become like Everest, the highest peak of the Himalayas. He further says that you need a different type of being to understand him. A cultivated head won't be of any help.

STOMACH WISDOM

The other day, I fell ill, because, I ate cold curd in the mid-afternoon. My gut feeling said not to accept curd, but impulse drove me to take and I bore the brunt of the situation. A sore throat accompanied by stomach ache showed me the hell last night.

After a long time, I was plagued by ill-health on so flimsy ground and I must tighten my belt. What I realized after deep contemplation is that my mouth is my guard post and the sentry there should be much more alert to protect the treasure called: Stomach. I took the vow that I should be cautious for such faulty decisions.

Being happy and falling ill takes a fraction of the second. Though Nature is offering so many lessons, I rather half-shut my eyes so far. This is the time to be conscious at every moment.

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN HAPPINESS AND RELATIONSHIP

Your happiness is directly proportionate to your relationship with the World, say with yourself, your near and dear ones and neighbours and strangers in society. Unless, you know what this relationship means, happiness can not come to your way.

Dalai Lama in his book 'The Art of Happiness' says that wherever, I meet people, I always have the feeling that I am encountering another human being, just like myself.

In the long road to understanding the relationship with the world (including your near and dear ones), you must first understand the relationship with YOURSELF. Here the YOU plays a vital role in judging your happiness, especially in relationships.

In understanding the relationships, you also need to understand what is LOVE which has a wider meaning and scope than what we generally see on a TV or film.
